Counseling groups are intended for people who have problems in which they are consciously aware of. These problems are always common problems and not major psychological problems that need to be individually dealt with. For example, a counseling group in chemical dependency would be beneficial in that the individuals who attend this group would have one main problem; addiction. This group would be meant to deal with addiction only and not, for example, depression. The leader of the group helps the group by providing them with direction that focuses on personal strength. The main focus of the group is here and now.
