Existentialists view human nature as a life of choices. Existentialists believe that every person has the ability to make their own choices and the choices that people make are what shape them to who they become. They also believe that everyone should be held accountable and be responsible for the choices they make. When practicing this type of therapy, professionals try to help the client understand this and also help the client figure out how to make choices that will have a better outcome for them.
Anxiety is very common and existentialists believe that some anxiety can be healthy. In existential therapy the professional can help the client figure out their personal meaning of life. To do this, therapy can be uncomfortable and challenging but the existential professional will teach the client how to channel their anxiety to make healthier choices.
