The DEA is the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency and they have classified drugs into categories.  Some drugs are not classified such as nicotine, alcohol and DXM.  Two of the classifications however, are Schedule I and Schedule II.  Schedule I drugs are not considered appropriate for use in a medical setting.  According to the DEA these drugs are the worst drugs with the worst outcome.  Some examples are marijuana, heroin, and MDMA.  Schedule II drugs have a strong potential for abuse or addiction but may be beneficial for medical use.  Some examples are methamphetamine, amphetamines, cocaine, and opium.  For example, Adderall contains amphetamine which is used to treat ADHD symptoms.
